SPACE-SAVING TOBOGGAN BACKPACK
Ninfa is a backpack designed to carry the sled during the winter and turn into a space-saving basket during the summer months. The design stems from the need to prevent the sled, a bulky and seasonal object, from remaining unused in the basement, taking up space and accumulating dust.
Through the different ways it can be opened, the backpack can be converted back into a basket and used to store winter accessories such as gloves, scarves or sweatshirts. The name "Ninfa" is inspired by the intermediate stage of the butterfly, a symbol of transformation: like a cocoon, the object changes shape and function, adapting to the different seasons of the year.
To develop the project, I personally contacted Artichoke Bags, a local company specialising in technical backpacks, obtaining direct advice from the founder on materials, stitching and structure. The backpack was sewn entirely by hand with recycled nylon fabric from nautical sails, kindly provided by the company. Inside, clips and laces secure the sled; the opening is adjusted by Velcro, and the shoulder straps are adjustable.
