Confluxus
POETIC EDUCATIONAL CUBE
“Confluxus” is an educational-poetic machine inspired by the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey. An enigmatic cube that fascinates.
When activated, the device projects two images: a red sphere reminiscent of HAL 9000's eye and a line cutting through the sphere, representing dawn or sunset, a frequent image in the film. Its educational function goes beyond the scientific realm. The project was conceived as a critical reflection on technology, its ambiguity, and its appeal. In this sense, it draws inspiration from a text by Pier Paolo Pasolini, who distinguishes between development and progress. Like the monolith, Confluxus appears fascinating, but invites us to question the limits of human understanding.
The reflective cube is activated by a switch. Inside it is a semicircle reminiscent of the moon, a recurring image in the film. Integrated into this structure are an electrical circuit, laser sources of different wavelengths, biconcave and biconvex lenses, and diffraction gratings, necessary to generate the light projections.
